What is behave?

behave. is a pair of apps designed to engage your kids by rewarding them for good behavior and coaching them to correct bad behavior. Kids earn points for good behavior that can be used to redeem non-monetary rewards like spending one on one time with mom or dad, staying up a  little bit past bedtime, extra internet time, choosing a movie to watch with the family and more. Our goal with behave is to teach kids good behavior skills but also teach them accountability for their actions.

Parents

Download the Behave app on your iOS or Android device and create a behave account. Think of your behave account as the central hub for your account. If mom and dad are going to use the behave app, you will both log in with the email and password used to create your behave account. From there you can quickly add all your children by adding their first name and a unique password for each child.

Kids

When your child downloads the behave.buddy app you will first need to log in with your behave account. From there they need to log in using their first name and the password you created for them. Their behave.buddy is now enabled ready for you to assigning points based on their behavior. They'll probably want to start by spinning the wheel for bonus points. Your child can spin the wheel once per day to help them earn bonus points on top of the points you reward them with.

behave is geared towards kids age 5 to 13 with access to internet on an Android device or iOS device like an iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad. By establishing a habit of using our system daily we are confident you will see a drastic improvement in your child's behavior.

How do I register?

Registration is super simple. Just download the app on your preferred device, click on register, give us an email and password and you're done. Log in and start using behave immediately.

How do I add my child / children?

Once you log in to the behave app simply click on "Manage Children" at the bottom of the app.  Click on the "Add Child" button, tell us your child's first name, give them a password and click "Save", then "Done". That's it. Now log in with your child's first name and the password you created for them in the behave.buddy app on their device.

Where does my child log in?

Your child needs to download the behave.buddy app. Once downloaded you will log in to your behave account with your email and password. From there you will be asked for your child's first name and the password you created for them in the behave app. That's it. They are ready to see their current behavior meter, behavior tips, spin the wheel daily to earn points and more!

What do you do with my child's information?

Privacy is important to us. This is why we ask only for a first name for your child's account and a password you create for them. We don't use full names or photo's of your children at all. What we do use is a unique ID we generate for your child that is used to send various notifications to their device for example, letting them know when you've got them in trouble or rewarded them for being good.

Can I customize the rewards and behaviors?

You can now! Our latest update allows you to customize all behaviors and rewards as well as their point values.

Why aren't the point values the same for rewards versus punishments?

We think it's extremely important using our system that no child feels like they are bad all the time or that it's too difficult to be good. We've made it very easy for kids to reverse a bad behavior to a good behavior. Children thrive with confidence when they see the benefits of being rewarded for good behavior. Kids want to be good and please their parents. Sometimes they just need a little boost.

What are the points used for?

Points are used for your child to redeem non-monetary rewards that we've pre-programmed in to their app. These rewards include: 1 on 1 time with mom, 1 on 1 time with dad, staying up 15 minutes past bedtime, 30 minutes extra internet time, 30 minutes extra video game time, Choosing a family activity, Choose what to eat for a meal, Have / Go to a sleepover, No chores for a day and Watch a movie with the family. It's extremely important that you suck it up and let your child redeem their rewards once they've earned the points. This helps your child learn to earn and feel the accomplishment of earning something all by themselves. If you don't allow them to redeem their rewards they wont be engaged in the app or want to achieve their goals.

What are behave trends?

In your child's app there is a character we've designed that is your child's "behave.buddy". They can tap on their behave.buddy at any time to get tips on how to maintain their good behavior, but more importantly our system is smart enough to identify and flag behaviors that need improvement. Behave.buddy will then give your child tips to improve that specific behavior.

Why do I see a count of all the rewards my child has redeemed?

We think it's important for you to know what's important for your child and identify your child's needs. Most kids will ask for extra internet or video game time. However if your child is asking for more 1 on 1 time with mom or dad, it could be a sign that you aren't spending enough time with them.

What's the purpose of the behavior meter?

Our studies have shown that kids respond well to an in-your-face visual cue of their current behavior. We encourage parents to use the behavior meter as a tool to hold your child accountable for their behavior. If your child asks you for a new toy or to go to a sleepover, have them take a look at their behavior meter. If their behavior is not good they cannot have the toy or go to the sleepover. This will encourage your child to improve their behavior and you will soon see your children making sure their behavior is good before they ask for perks. Accountability for ones actions is a valuable lesson we feel is important in our system.

How will my child know I've rewarded them or they've lost points for bad behavior?

We send a notification to your childs device letting them know immediately when they've been rewarded or when they've lost points for bad behavior. We also let them know why. If you have taken points away for bad behavior we also send you a notification 15 minutes later reminding you to have a talk with your child about the bad behavior you have identified. In most cases your child will come running to you to find out why you took points away. Make sure you explain why and set expectations with your child to help them learn how to correct this behavior.

How do I approve rewards my child redeems?

Once your child has enough points to redeem a reward they will redeem it in their app. You will receive a notification letting you know which child redeemed which reward. You will also see a pulsing blue star next to your child's name in your behave app. Rewards don't need to be approved immediately. When you are ready to approve their reward simply tap on the thumbs up icon to approve the reward and we'll let your child know their reward has been approved.

My child has lots of points but cannot redeem a reward, why?

We only allow rewards to be redeemed while your child's behavior is good. If your child's behavior is currently in a poor status we will let them know that they cannot redeem a reward until their behavior improves.

What are the badges for?

Badges are a symbols of milestones in our app. Your child will feel a great sense of accomplishment earning behave badges. The better their behavior, the more badges they can earn with the ultimate prize being the behave crown.

I stopped receiving notifications

This can happen if you sign in to more than 2 devices with your account. behave is designed to work with 1 device for mom and one device for dad. It's an easy fix though. Open the behave app, click on settings and re-assign the device you are using as parent 1 or parent 2. Notifications will begin working on that device immediately.

I have an Android device but my kids have iPhones and iPads. Will behave work?

Absolutely. behave works across both iOS and Android. Everything will work seamlessly regardless of which device preference you, your wife and / or kids have.
